look out!
Found this here: http://kis-my-ft2.livejournal.com/921912.html

Lately there has been a very serious, new type rootkit virus spreading in various routes, and one very serious way for LJ users is the video spam comment. Some users have recently been receiving comments with youtube links (embedded videos) - some are just spam comments with a link in the comment, some are made by hijacked accounts and even include text to make the comment seem real (for example telling you your video has been stolen and provides you with a youtube link).

These youtube links are infected with rootkit that will infiltrate your computer and steal personal information and possibly hijack the Internet connection. So members, please be VERY careful with any youtube links in comments! This virus is new and nasty, so we don't know how serious it can end up being on the computer.

One of our mods, kira_shadow, fell victim to this rootkit because a hijacked account made a proper comment with a link to a so-called "stolen video" and her computer is being treated at a shop right now, but there is no telling how serious it will end up being. In some cases Internet connection providers have been shutting down connections (at least here in Finland) when computers have been infected with the rootkit. (One of my sister's friends still haven't gotten her connection back, we got ours back after I rebooted my mother's infected laptop.) Please note that I don't know any details since this this particular case has not happened to me, I'm only reporting what kira_shadow knows of the issue that happened to her.

So please be very careful! Also, kira_shadow is currently not really available for mod duties until she gets her computer back, so please do not contact her about mod related business for a while, or at least don't expect her to be able to answer soon as we don't know how long fixing her computer will take. (On a somewhat related matter, I'm leaving to Japan for a month next week, and yararanger is there atm as well with limited Internet access, so we are not really too available either ^^;)

EDIT: At the moment it seems kira_shadow's computer wasn't affected with the worst possible virus (at least apparently?) so it could be that the virus hidden in the video is something less severe than the torpig/mebroot rootkit that has been causing serious issues lately. Nevertheless, please be cautious of these kind of spam links for your safety.

from action comics #10

<3333333333

I just love the way Bruce is sitting and staring at him.

(Also, Superman looks awfully young here... or just really, really short.)

Edit: I keep forgetting Action Comics is set 5 years ago from the current New 52 continuity. But still.

make mine boostle!
One question asked at the DC panel today at Kapow, was about Dan’s interview with the Advocate in the USA. Specifically over the decision not to change any character’s sexual orientation when relaunching the DC Universe. At the time Dan stated they would introduce new LGBT characters rather than switch orientation, but the question asked why DC would switch race, size, age, all sorts of identifying features, but not orientation.

Surprisingly, DiDio stated that they had changed DC’s policy in this regard. And they ae about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.”

So who do you think it is? I hope it's one of the following:

Dick Grayson
Jason Todd
Tim Drake
Conner Kent
Bart Allen
Hal Jordan
Barry Allen
Wally West
Ted Kord
Michael Jon Carter
Jaime Reyes
Kyle Rayner

It's gotta be Dick Grayson. Next to Bruce, he's the sexiest man alive and he never seems 100% heterosexual, you know? Very flamboyant, charming, drop-dead gorgeous, looks good in ANY costume, even that silly Nightwing disco suit, always has girl problems... Plus, Babs wouldn't mind sharing him with other guys, I'm sure... (I know I wouldn't!)

Well, I wouldn't mind him becoming bisexual. I'd miss him being with Babs if he was 100% homosexual.

God, I hope it's both Ted and Michael. I personally begged Dan Didio to bring back Ted Kord in the New 52 at Megacon earlier this year, and he said he'd see what he would do about that. I want Boostle to be official!

Best episode of Young Justice so far! Loving this series so much. <3333

Really, it's gotta be the best animated series on TV right now :)

I miss the awesome fingerstripes on Nightwing's costume, but at least they got the color right. Not that horrible, angry red color the comics version has on right now. Ugh.

OMFG, scans_daily. You have gone TOO FAR.

I used to leave comments and even actual posts at scans_daily (under a different name) a few times, years before it was destroyed by PAD and LJ. But now? I don't dare BREATHE a word at that community. Because I don't want to get banned I just stay low and lurk, which can suck because there have been times where I wanted to say something or ask a question or post a funny scan or two.

I don't know how it got to be the way it is today. Even GAIL SIMONE has remarked via her tumblr earlier this year that there's something wrong with scans_daily.

Edit: What's really backwards is that it's NOT okay to mock the death of a GOOD female character but it IS okay to mock the death of an EVIL female character. *headdesk*

sockpuppet gone too far
mood: shocked

OMG, this is so sick:

Over in Doctor Who fandom, it seems like Doctor/Rose fic writer jeprdyfrndly (aka Victoria Lane-Lyton), BFF of fellow Doctor/Rose fic writer amberfocus, has a serendipitous life. She met her gorgeous husband, also a Doctor Who fan, when he saw her reading a Doctor Who book in a cafe. They had a lovely wedding (the groom's cake even had a Doctor and Rose on it!), went on a European honeymoon that included several Doctor Who-themed locations (London, Cardiff, and Barcelona), and settled into domestic bliss and financial security (he owns a coffee shop; she has access to a trust). Then she got pregnant despite two kinds of birth control, and had twin girls (she herself is a twin, and there's a history of twins in her family). She's a stay-at-home mum now, but her husband hired a high-school girl to help out by coming in for three hours every day after school to cook, clean, and mind the twins.

A few days ago, she posted a picture of her adorable babies.

The only problem? Those aren't her kids. (According to the metadata, the picture is from 2006. In fact, the girls in that picture are two years old; Victoria says her twins are less than ten months old and are small for their age.)

Huh. That's weird. Why would she post a picture of someone else's kids and claim them as hers?

And for that matter, why would aforementioned BFF amberfocus leave a positive comment if they're someone else's kids, considering she probably knows what they look like, since she met them several months before?

On closer inspection, amberfocus is involved in a lot of the major events of jeprdyfrndly's life. They beta (and even rec!) each other's fic. amberfocus introduced her to LJ. She went to Victoria's wedding (but oh no, she forgot her camera, and Victoria's awful private about pictures on the internet, so you'll never see that Doctor/Rose cake topper, sorry :(). She made Victoria take that fateful pregnancy test, and went to an ultrasound with her.

Victoria and her husband even have their own Facebook profiles. (Isn't it amazing how much they look like Billie Piper and Kellan Lutz?)

All evidence points towards jeprdyfrndly and her entire backstory (and her fic, too) being the work of amberfocus (something that some people have suspected but before now had no proof of).
http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1283185.html

(Link to original post contains links; there were too many for me to copy/paste, sorry.)

This seriously borderlines on schizophrenia. You develop a whole new personality for everyone to be friends with and talk to and enjoy fic with...

Why do people DO that? It's sick and you're just pathetically screaming for attention. You really, really, seriously NEED TO GET HELP if you created this sockpuppet and have been using it for years, even making up pretend weddings and then pretend to have children.

I'm sorry, if I ever became friends with someone who took their sockpuppet this far, I'd have to block that person and spread the word. Holy shit.

Is this stuff common? Does it happen often? I never heard of this but apparently fandom_wank makes it seem like it's more like some stupid weekly thing. I can understand creating a sockpuppet to get into something that one wouldn't normally be allowed in, such as a closed community or whatever, but to create this whole new person with pretend marriages and children and deceive other people like this... that's just sick.

How fucking AWESOME is this???

Catman is bisexual, and when we bring him back, that will be explicitly in canon.

I always thought there was something with Catman in Secret Six and in the Villains United mini series... the way he kinda flirted with Deadshot SO many times!... but I assumed it was just Gail teasing us or something.

But no, that was always her intention.

I fucking love you, Gail Simone. THANK YOU!!!

Facts we know about him so far:
  • known alternatively as “The Wall”
  • real name is Miguel
  • he’s gay
  • he’s mexican
  • he’s catholic
  • his family loves him and is supportive (even threw him a party when they found out about his power)
This is probably the first gay teen in DC who doesn’t have angst issues and whatnot from the get-go. Interesting. I don’t usually read Teen Titans, but if it features Swan Queen, RoboSupes, Thief Chick, and Purple Gay Man, I might have to pick up an issue or two.
Me gusta
so the first new gay character and hes wearing an ugly purple and red electrocutioner ripoff, his alter-ego dresses like either a bad guy from a 90s movie or a gay best friend stereotype from a 90s movie, he stole his nickname from the recently de-sized amanda waller, and is getting kicked in the face by tim drake on his first cover

yeah this sounds great
Tim is jealous that the new kid got to come out of the closet before he did

but seriously ugh this art is terrible and I am almost positive that this book will suck/be terribly offensive but we’ll see. I hope I’m proven wrong but I mean. probably not.
also if I never hear/read/see ‘me gusta’ again IT WILL BE TOO SOON
Honestly, I'm not even sure if this is real. (Edit: It IS real.) But if it IS... then, this new character sounds like horrible fanfiction written by some 40-year-old who doesn't know what he's doing and is being forced to creating him because someone else wants him to.... oh wait.

God, some people are just so fucking clueless.

Edit: Embarrassing fashion sense aside, I can't wait to see this guy in Teen Titans. I hope he's a Tim/Kon shipper. <3

Edit2: Here's what Brett Booth says about Bunker:

[According to Scott Lobdell:] His real name is Miguel Jose Barragan. He was raised in a very small Mexican village called El Chilar. He was very loved by his family and the village as well -- and they were as accepting of his homosexuality as they were to his super powers when they first manifested. To that end he grew up in an angst-free environment. He was born out of the closet and so he has a very refreshing outlook on life.

So Bunker has been out of both closets since the get go. Why the more flamboyant look? Well it's complicated. I've seen all the other gay superheroes out there, Ok maybe not all. They look just like regular heterosexuals, they act like regular heterosexuals, they just happen to have sex with people of their own gender, under the covers and in the dark. Sure you might get a kiss on a page, but that's all (an no we won't be doing any sex scenes in TT, get your minds OUT of the gutters;)

We wanted to show an interesting character who's homosexuality is part of him, not something that's hidden. Sure they are gay people who you wouldn't know are gay right off the bat, but there are others who are a more flamboyant, and we thought it would be nice to actually see them portrayed in comics. Did we go over the top, I don't think so. I wanted you to know he might be gay as soon as you see him. Our TT is partly about diversity of ANY kind, its about all kinds of teens getting together to help each other. It is a very difficult line to walk, will he be as I've read in some of the comments 'fruity'? Not that I'm aware of. Will he be more effeminate than what we've seen before, the 'typical' gay male comic character, yes. Does it scare the shit out of me that I might inadvertently piss off the group I want to reflect in a positive way, you're damn straight (pun intended!)

The Pink shirt has been changed to blue, it's only pink because his costume is actually showing a bit, we didn't want too many different colors. But I think the blue works just as well. I would have used that image but I don't know if I got that change in my files...

As for the children.. Most simply don't know or don't care. It's not like Migg's is going to be doing a one man gay pride parade. I don't t hink we even mention that he's gay, you see him, you know it, no need to harp on about it. He's just a happy fun loving guy! He won't be wearing anything that I haven't seen at Walmart. Well maybe Target;)

So if you have any questions ask away. If it's about how much you hate homosexuals, please don't bother, I'm pro gay rights and marriage, and rather than give you your 15 minutes I think I'll just delete it. I may be willing to take some heat but I don't enjoy seeing seeing others attacked for no real reason other than being gay. Will I be called a hypocrite because I 'attack' religion? I'm sure I will, but religion is a choice and being gay isn't, sorry republicans, too much science to even go there, so don't!

First, I love that the artist is a huge pro-gay couple/marriage supporter. Second, he seems genuinely excited for this new character and nervous to get everything as right as possible.

Ugh, Bunker's taste in fashion is still very bad but that's probably part of his character, kinda like Urkel from Family Matters. I dunno.

Still, all this stuff is very good news. :)

“I hope that, somewhere along the line in the reboot, DC revamps the Red Robin series and puts Fabian and Marcus back on. I’d be a very happy fangirl.”

THIS FOREVER

Man, I gotta say I stand behind all of this except for the Fabian part. I have always hated the way FabNic writes Tim. Always. He becomes this super pretentious, self-involved, super heteronormative, douche bag when Fabian writes him. By and large, that isn’t Tim Drake based on all of his other writers. Does Tim get pretentious? Fuck yes. Is he self-involved? Sometimes, of course he is; he is both human and a teenager through most of this. The thing is though, these are only aspects of his personality, character flaws that sometimes come out in some situations. You know. Like a well developed character who is meant to be like a real person. And he’s mostly been aware of them, and he used to acknowledge it when he fucked up because he was dwelling in those parts of himself. Not always, but mostly.

Except, when FabNic writes him, those flaws are all he’s reduced to. I feel like a quick summary of his internal monologue would read something like, ‘I’m Tim Drake-Wayne. I am a god among men. I love the ladies and the ladies love me. I am impossibly perfect. Nobody else has an opinion that matters, because I am clearly both superior and running this goddamn show.’ It’s like he becomes this weird Alpha Male, some caricature of what a “a real superhero” looks like. Manly man doing manly things.

It makes me miss the super nerdy, self-aware Tim Drake that freaked out when he realized how expensive being a super hero was and how much he probably didn’t have that kind of money anymore. What about the Tim Drake who built himself a rocket skateboard when his car got taken away, who listened to Enya and let his best friend make fun of him for it? Where is the Tim Drake who actually feels guilty for lying to people he cares about and has what borders on an obsessive fear of failure? Tim Drake used to cry over everything, and it was awesome. He used to feel things that weren’t related to how awesome he is or perceives himself to be. What was great about Tim was that when he messed up he knew it and acknowledged it. He was incredibly relatable.

When Chris Yost wrote Red Robin we had a Tim Drake who was faced with the very real sense of being both bereaved and completely, utterly lost in the world, not knowing who he was anymore and where the hell he was going. With Fabian Nicizea we have a Tim Drake who thinks he is without sin and above judgement (literally, I think actually including a phrase that says, roughly, ‘I am totally without a single flaw’ during the arc where Gotham was being judged by Azrael et al.).Granted, the early arc of RR had Tim Drake dealing with abandonment issues and the loss Bruce Wayne. I will grant that FabNic did not have this level of angst to deal with and that might make the latter 2/3 of RR less compelling from an emotional standpoint. But Tim wrestling with very real identity issues, even in the context of being a superhero, made him endearing and identifiable. Even without that kind of personal drama though, Tim can be a very real person in his very unreal role as a superhero.

However, the fact remains that FabNic is consistent in his depiction of Tim, from way back when he was Robin under Bruce’s Batman until now when he is essentially independent. And I feel like the longer he writes Tim, the less he looks like my favorite character.

so well said

Oh man, I feel like I don't know Tim Drake AT ALL now. :(

I can't wait till I'm done writing more of my fics and finish reading Daredevil and Spider-Man because I am going STRAIGHT to the batbooks to learn more about the batcharacters, ESPECIALLY Timmy.

Honestly, I would rather have a divorce in the comics than an easy fix like this. Done in one issue of Superman or Action Comics. Doesn't have to be very many pages.

I'll bet that issue would sell really well. I mean, Action Comics #900 sold pretty well when Superman "denounced" his citizenship or whatever, didn't it? Well, it got a lot of press coverage anyway.

sorry
mood: discontent

Everyone, I'm really sorry for writing these bitchy posts and throwing stupid tantrums. It's just that many of DC's changes are very disheartening to me, and I literally don't have anyone else to talk to about this in real life, to point out some things that I obviously shouldn't be so upset about, so I end up posting here instead. (I used to but he died...)

I'm still not over the big change in Teen Titans. It seems like DC wiped away relationships and changed some characters so completely they're almost unrecognizable to me.

Barbara is back to being Batgirl. I loved Batgirl when I was little (hell, I had a crush on her) and my love for her grew even more when I found out she was Oracle as I got into comics later. Babs as Batgirl again seems like a huge step backward to me.

What's also a big step backward is Catwoman. She's now back to her iconic thief-stealing self after all she's been through. She's back to abusing poor Bruce and clawing at him as she did on BTAS. I fucking hated that. I guess we'll never see their close relationship with Selina knowing about Bruce's secret identity or her little girl again.

There was so much progress with many of these characters in the comics...

What I love about the mainstream comics, especially at DC - and I think some people have forgotten about this - is that there are these great "original" stories and characters that have progressed to unthinkable levels not seen anywhere else. Not on TV (well, Oracle was seen in an ep of The Batman plus that live-action BOP show) and not in live-action movies. But at the same time we'd still have retellings of teams/characters that don't change the current teams and characters.

Like that Teen Titans Year One mini series. We'd have a retelling of the original Teen Titans in a mini series separate from the main Teen Titans, but it was still accessible and, most importantly, really fun. And that didn't alter the current Teen Titans book at all.

But now what's left in the DCnU is a new version of another Teen Titans group. Same with Birds of Prey. And none of them appear to be consistent with the old versions, nor do they appear new-reader friendly, especially to someone who used to watch that animated Teen Titans TV show and is looking for more of Raven or Beast Boy or whatever.

I really do understand the reason why DC felt like it had to push the soft reboot button. Some things needed to be taken away, like the events of Identity Crisis or Final Crisis. But I'm also annoyed that we're going to see the same stories again soon. More "secret origins" of characters that we've read about so many times before - I'm looking at you, Clark. (Though I am extremely excited Grant is writing Superman again. LOVED All Star Superman <3)

There ARE some things that I'm eagerly waiting to read in September. Bruce and Damian are together at last (I hardly believe Bruce is going to treat Damian badly in any way like some are assuming), Jason has his own ongoing at last, Dick is back as Nightwing again, JLA, JLI... the Legion is still the Legion, thank god (just separated for a while).

AND STORMWATCH. Midnighter and Apollo are together again!! And J'onn is co-starring in that book too! <3333

I just wish DC hadn't renumbered all the comics back to first issues and dramatically altered so many teams and characters. I welcome what I posted above wholeheartedly but good god I don't think renumbering and adding some drastic changes were necessary at all.

Back in 2006, NONE of the comics I started reading were at number one! I started reading comics because of the characters I saw from other media. And I picked up even MORE titles and trades as I learned more about other DC characters from the comics I read.

So this reboot is still a nasty pill for me to swallow. So difficult that I'm literally going through various stages of grief every day. And what I want to do the most is escape from all this reboot shit and read more comics but I can't concentrate. Same with reading your fics. I also zone out while watching TV and playing video games... I'm just so depressed. I just feel like I lost something really special and I'll never get it back.

2) http://www.gothamknightsonline.com/?p=18081

While he's still Red Robin, it appears that he isn't himself anymore, and the other Teen Titans also aren't the same characters we know and love.

Fuck DC for changing their relationship and the team. It's as if my favorite TT characters have been mindwiped and their memories can't come back. How the FUCK is this easy for potential new readers to jump onto? It's even more discouraging for CURRENT fans to get into. It is for me, anyway.

I am fucking DONE with DC's changing shit around.
